Looking to make up some ground at the top of the La Liga table, Barcelona will make the trip to the José Zorrilla when they face off against Real Valladolid on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Real Valladolid might have opened the 2020/2021 campaign in a hugely worrying fashion, Pucelanos certainly find themselves enjoying their brightest run of the season so far. Putting in a spirited display away at European outfit Sevilla over the weekend, Head Coach Sergio González saw his side snatch a late point on the road and they now find just their goal difference keeping them in the drop zone. Along with managing to extend on their Copa del Rey adventure after landing a routine 5-0 romp against lower league Cantolagua earlier in the month, Valladolid have lost just one of their last seven matchups across all formats, a run that stems back to November 2nd. Showing some recent improvements in the final third, it should also be noted that Tuesday’s hosts have collected seven points from their last three La Liga contests on home soil.
As for the visitors, while Barcelona might have seen Lionel Messi break yet another record over the weekend, the former Spanish champions once again dropped points and are desperately seeking some stability. Watching Valencia come from behind and grab a point thanks to a 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp, new boss Ronald Koeman has struggled to win over the Catalonia fans since taking over earlier in the year. With their recent issues highlighted by a thumping 3-0 drumming at the hands of Juventus on Champions League duties a fortnight ago, the former Holland boss finds his new squad sat down in fifth and desperately trying to make up some ground. Even more concerning for the former Spanish champions, they have gained a real reputation for their rather glaring issues on the road. Including a shock 2-1 defeat away at Cadiz in their last matchup away from the Nou Camp, Barcelona have remarkably collected just a single point from their last four away fixtures.
