That’s all from this barmy contest! Thanks for joining us and, until next time, goodbye!

Inter fans will have enjoyed that one. And that was just their first game of a long season! They go to Benevento next in midweek, while Fiorentina must somehow lift themselves for Friday’s visit of Sampdoria back in Florence.

The Inter coaching staff share hugs in the dugout at the end of a frantic, fantastic win. They looked down and out as they trailed 3-2 in the final five minutes, but goals from Lukaku and D’Ambrosio sensationally turned the match on its head. Fiorentina led first through Kouame and then, after Martinez hit back, scoring one and forcing an own goal, through Castrovilli and Chiesa. Both goals were created by Ribery, but Inter turned the game around after the veteran winger was substituted.

90′ + 5′ FULL-TIME: Inter 4-3 Fiorentina

90′ + 4′ Vlahovic and Cutrone have been really disappointing in place of Kouame and Ribery. They have lacked the same support, but Vlahovic has too often run down blind alleyways and now Cutrone concedes a needless foul.

90′ + 3′ Conte is gesturing wildly on the sidelines as Fiorentina attack. He is missing his defensive options after a series of attacking changes. Sensi wins a throw-in off Pirola, though.

90′ + 1′ There will be a minimum of four minutes of added time, but Fiorentina are struggling to conjure up a response.

90′ Dragowski makes a vital intervention! Hakimi is lightning fast down the right but is just beaten to the ball by the advancing goalkeeper.

90′ There are only 1,000 fans in the stadium, but they make themselves heard for the first time with a few choruses of song as Inter close on a stunning win!

89′ GOOAAALLLL!!! D’AMBROSIO! INCREDIBLE! 4-3 INTER! Two goals in less than 90 seconds! A deflected cross loops up at the back post and the defender towers over Vlahovic to nod in what might well be the winner.

87′ Hakimi provides the impact Inter would have hoped for! Racing onto a pass down the right, he cuts the ball back into Lukaku’s path for the leveller.

87′ GOOAAALLLL!!! LUKAKU! Inter’s talisman comes to their rescue! His shooting has been wayward here, but his close-range finish just evades Dragowski this time. 3-3!

85′ A really lovely touch as the Inter fans – there are around 1,000 inside San Siro – applaud Ribery as he makes his way down the touchline. The veteran’s masterclass is rightly recognised.

84′ Castrovilli eats up a few more seconds with a foul from Nainggolan. Good work.

83′ A magnificent Ribery performance comes to an end. He created two goals and might have had further assists. Cutrone is on.

83′ There is brief concern for Lukaku as he goes down seemingly under no contact. The Fiorentina players knock the ball out of play, but the forward is eventually back on his feet and able to continue.

82′ Time is running out for Inter to rescue a draw let alone a win. Sanchez crosses but Vidal and Martinez collide, meaning Dragowski can pounce on the ball.

80′ MISS! Huge, huge miss! That should seal it! Ribery is the man at the middle of it all once again. What a performance. He runs at Bastoni and squeezes a pass through to Vlahovic, unmarked and with time to pick his spot inside the area. He lashes wide. Ribery deserves better from his team-mate.

79′ Frustration for Fiorentina. They clear a Hakimi cross as pressure builds, but then Vlahovic fouls Kolarov.

78′ This is some Inter line-up now! It is all out attack, with Sanchez replacing Perisic, who was playing at wing-back.

78′ Fiorentina are first to every ball in their own half and it is only good defensive work from Bastoni that denies Ribery another chance to break from halfway.

77′ This is a rather easier save for Dragowski. It is another shot from distance as Sensi works space, but the goalkeeper holds on.

76′ This is more like the Inter we expected with the new boys on. Hakimi carries the ball down the right after a failed Fiorentina pass, but Lukaku’s centre is cut out.

76′ Lirola does brilliantly to escape a box on the right side of the pitch, with Fiorentina moving the ball to the opposite side. Rather than run in behind this time, though, the 37-year-old Ribery is happy to conserve his energy and keep the ball. This is precious possession.

75′ Vidal is also on for his debut. Brozovic heads for the bench.

74′ How is this for a double substitution? Inter introduce power in the centre of the pitch with Nainggolan first on for Barella.

73′ SAVE AGAIN! Dragowski is doing his bit now! Barella lets fly from 20 yards and the goalkeeper gets up to parry over the top. Good save!

72′ SAVE! Remarkable stop! Lukaku shrugs off Ceccherini on the edge of the box and is through on goal on his right foot. Dragowski’s own right boot expertly turns a powerful shot past the post, though.

72′ Fiorentina are going to get chances on the break, it seems. Lirola feeds Vlahovic, who dummies left and blasts over from 20 yards.

69′ Martinez seemingly remains Inter’s most likely route to goal. He works space 20 yards from goal but a low shot is straight at Dragowski for a very simple stop.

69′ Are Fiorentina looking to sit on this lead now? Chiesa makes way for a more defensive-minded option in Lirola.

68′ WIDE! Outstanding from Ceccherini, but how does Lukaku miss?! Sensi spreads the ball wide to Perisic, whose low cross is begging to be tucked away. Lukaku misses the near post under intense pressure from Ceccherini, though.

67′ Unsurprisingly, it is all Inter again. Hakimi gets to the byline and crosses, but Ceccherini is there ahead of Lukaku to clear.

66′ There is no sign of this game slowing. Sensi wins a free-kick from Chiesa, but Castrovilli stands tall to head away.

65′ Inter want more energy on the flank – the same side Ribery is playing – as Young makes way for Hakimi.

64′ Another underwhelming Eriksen outing comes to an end with Sensi’s introduction.

63′ Ribery created the second goal and does so again for the third. This is a quite magnificent assist. He dances past D’Ambrosio on halfway and picks out a glorious pass as Chiesa races up in support.

63′ GOOAAALLLL!!! CHIESA! Fiorentina lead! Incredible! It’s 3-2! The game is so open right now and Chiesa races onto a sensational Ribery pass to dink a finish past Handanovic, whose weak hand cannot stop the ball crossing the line.

62′ Inter might be glad to see the back of Bonaventura. The man who assisted the opener has four goals against the Nerazzurri in Serie A, only scoring more in matches with Napoli.

Borja Valero

G. Bonaventura

61′ Fiorentina make their first changes. Valero, the ex-Inter man, replaces former Milan midfielder Bonaventura.

61′ CHANCE! Perisic squanders a big opportunity! Barella’s pass in behind the Fiorentina back line is met by the winger, escaping Chiesa this time, but he shoots himself with Lukaku nearby and blazes over the top. Disappointing.

61′ There is a change up front, too, as Kouame makes way for Vlahovic.

59′ These two sides have played some classics over the years – 4-2, 5-4 and 3-3 are among the recent scorelines – and we could have another in store. Fiorentina have the upper hand again at the moment.

57′ Ribery’s experience makes the difference again for the assist. He takes Castrovilli’s pass, holds the ball up long enough for the midfielder to join him in the final third and then weights a gorgeous pass into his path.

57′ GOOAAALLLL!!! CASTROVILLI! We are level again! 2-2! This is wonderful from Castrovilli, whose energy knows no bounds. He plays a pass forward down the left to launch an attack and then races into the area, taking a return pass on his right before shooting with his left. Handanovic cannot get close to a powerful low finish.

56′ Inter fail to mount an effective counter. Brozovic blocks from Bonaventura and then initially combines well with Martinez and Barella to create space in behind the Fiorentina midfield. But Brozovic cannot maintain the momentum and the hosts start again.

55′ Inter are just starting to win their individual duels. Bastoni has the measure of Kouame, while Martinez is causing all sorts of problems at the other end.

53′ Martinez has had a hand in both goals. The first, late in the first half, was his fourth from outside the box in all competitions in 2020. Only Hakan Calhanoglu (eight) and┬áRuslan Malinovskiy (five) have more in Europe’s ‘top five’ leagues.

52′ GOOAAALLLL!!! OWN GOAL! CECCHERINI! Inter lead 2-1! Martinez does brilliantly, holding Amrabat off and twisting to shoot inside the area. His effort picks up a nick off Amrabat and deflects against the helpless Ceccherini to deceive Dragowski.

51′ Chiesa gets the better of Perisic this time! That has been a good battle, and the makeshift wing-back races onto Martinez’s teasing flick ahead of his opponent.

50′ Bastoni prompts a roar of approval as he muscles Kouame off the ball, carries it forward and picks out Lukaku. The forward fails to beat his man, though.

49′ Almost a chance! Inter come forward and create an overload on the right. Barella crosses, with Martinez and Perisic waiting in the middle. But Lukaku rises to take the ball of his strike partner’s toe with a header that drops harmlessly wide.

47′ Inter deal with the first set-piece of the second half comfortably, with Fiorentina forced to go all the way back to Dragowski, whose long ball runs through to Kolarov.

46′ Kouame is almost in again at the start of the second period! A clearance runs into the forward’s path and his attempted cross, a flick from the right of the area, is deflected behind for a corner.

46′ KICK-OFF: Hosts Inter get us back under way!

Inter still have Vidal to call on from the bench. No player has scored more goals under Conte in Europe’s ‘top five’ leagues than the midfielder (28 – tied with Eden Hazard).

Inter have dominated the possession but might count themselves fortunate to be level at the break. They trailed early to Kouame’s close-range finish and have survived a couple of other scares, although Martinez saw a penalty award overturned at the other end. Martinez would not be denied in the final seconds of the half, beating Dragowski from just outside the left side of the box.

45′ + 3′ HALF-TIME: Inter 1-1 Fiorentina

45′ + 2′ Barella finds Martinez in a shooting position, but this goal owes everything to the stylish finish. Frustration for Fiorentina, who were in control!

45′ + 2′ GOOAAALLLL!!! MARTINEZ! Clinical! The Inter striker has scarcely had sight of the goal but picks his spot at the end of an Inter counter. Martinez shapes a finish into the bottom-right corner to level the match at 1-1.

45′ + 1′ Fiorentina work the ball really well up the right, before Chiesa leaves Perisic on the ground and crosses. Biraghi’s pass back into the area is cleared, though, allowing Inter to break.

45′ + 1′ There will be a minimum of two minutes of added time.

44′ OVER! Young has delivered some magnificent balls. His latest finds Perisic creeping in front of Chiesa to get his foot to the ball, but it loops over the top at close range.

43′ Another Inter attack is stopped, this time for a handball by Martinez in the box. The ball deflects his way but the forward cannot adjust quickly enough and attempts to parry the cross.

42′ CHANCE! Another Fiorentina opening! Castrovilli dances through and feeds Kouame, who has a clear sight of goal until Young lunges in. It is an excellent tackle and the ball rebounds off Kouame and over the crossbar. Vital!

41′ Milenkovic again! D’Ambrosio wins a tackle and the ball is hurried up the pitch to Lukaku. The forward loves to run at defenders but is the subject of another wonderfully timed Milenkovic intervention.

40′ Milenkovic missed a big chance for Fiorentina to double their lead, but he has been superb at the other end. Two crunching challenges in quick succession halt Eriksen and Barella on the corner of the area.

38′ A lovely touch from Martinez opens up the pitch for Perisic running in from the left. Lukaku mistimes his run, though, and then Perisic delays the pass, too, meaning Dragowski can collect after what should have been a threatening break.

36′ Good goalkeeping! Young gets down the right and has Lukaku and Martinez in the middle, but Dragowski dives out full length to punch the cross clear.

35′ Fiorentina appeal for an elbow by Lukaku on Caceres. It looks an optimistic call and the referee is not interested.

34′ Lukaku spins into half a yard of space on the edge of the box, but his shot is charged down. Then Kolarov tries his luck but blasts a long way off target. Fiorentina will be happy to let their hosts resort to such speculative efforts.

33′ Kolarov delivers Inter’s free-kick from the right, but Fiorentina clear. The counter is halted this time, yet Inter cannot pick a swift pass in attack and instead return to a series of fairly aimless passes.

F. Ceccherini

Yellow Card

32′ This Fiorentina booking will stand! Ceccherini pretty rashly chops down Martinez by the corner flag. The forward has nowhere to go but buys a foul and a card for his opponent.

31′ Ribery’s experience is telling. He has been perhaps the best player on the pitch. The former France winger knows when to make a forward run and when to hold onto the ball and invite a foul.

30′ Again the wrong pass costs Inter in the final third. D’Ambrosio gets forward into the box but plays in the clearly offside Barella. Conte applauds his players.

28′ So poor from Eriksen. He has been a little plodding playing off the front two so far, and a dreadfully overhit cross wastes an extended move from front to back.

25′ This has been a very lively first 25 minutes. Fiorentina have had by far the better chances and deserve their goal, but Inter are coming back into it.

24′ Great clearance! Chiesa might prefer to play in a more attacking role, but he is excelling as a wing-back. Eriksen gets down the right and looks up to deliver a cross, yet Chiesa is across on the other side to sweep a booming clearance away.

23′ OVER! Huge chance! This is a sensational cross from Kouame! With a left-wing free-kick not properly cleared, the forward drifts right and delivers to Milinkovic. The defender has to score but nods narrowly over.

22′ This is getting a little tasty. A roar goes up as Martinez clatters Amrabat near halfway. There is a small crowd in for this one and they are getting involved.

21′ Lukaku runs through on the right but blasts well wide from a tight angle. Inter have been denied a penalty but are in hot pursuit of an equaliser.

20′ NO PENALTY! The decision is overturned! Fiorentina breathe a sigh of relief. The referee assesses the monitor and decides Caceres gets the ball. An initial booking for the defender is also struck off.

19′ The referee wants a second look at this on the pitchside monitor. Lukaku feeds Martinez, who appears to kick Caceres’ leg after the defender intervenes.

18′ PENALTY? Inter look to have a spot-kick! This will be interesting on a second viewing… Martinez shapes to shoot and Caceres steps in.

17′ SAVE! Fiorentina almost pinch a second on the break! Ribery is in the mood! From Inter’s corner, Kolarov’s shot is blocked and Ribery is away. He outruns Young, dances past a couple of challenges and plays a big switch to Kouame. The striker controls but Handanovic is out quickly and blocks brilliantly.

16′ Inter have a first corner as Lukaku just fails to stretch onto a Brozovic pass and Young’s subsequent cross is hammered against the shins of Biraghi and behind.

15′ CHANCE! Brozovic fails to make contact! Fiorentina are carved open for the first time by one wonderful ball. Barella delivers from the inside-right position and Brozovic is ahead of his marker, lunging after the ball. He looks certain to score but cannot head in.

13′ Fiorentina have had just 39 per cent of possession but are making good use of it. The contrast in the urgency of the two teams is evident.

11′ OVER! Better from Inter! Young and Lukaku combine on the right side of the area for the former to cross towards the back post. Perisic is up highest but cannot keep his header down.

10′ Fiorentina’s energy has them well on top. Even as Inter counter through a long Handanovic pass, Chiesa is back to halt Martinez brilliantly.

9′ CHANCE! Biraghi does not trouble the target but perhaps should score! A cutback from the right is dummied by Kouame for striker partner Ribery, who spots Biraghi unmarked on the left of the area. A low blast is screwed across the face of goal, though.

8′ The Nerazzurri need to wake up! They twice more give the ball away in the middle of the pitch and the white Fiorentina shirts flood forward.

7′ Inter’s frustration is getting the better of them already. A second foul in quick succession sees Barella catch Ribery and go into the book.

4′ That is not the start Inter were looking for. This slightly makeshift defensive line-up means they can move the ball well, but they fail to react as soon as Eriksen loses the ball.

3′ It is so unselfish from Bonaventura who looks certain to score but takes Handanovic out of the game with his pass to Kouame. It looks at first as though he makes a mess of the finish, but it is a really smart pass.

3′ GOOAAALLLL!!! KOUAME! Incredible! It’s 1-0 from Fiorentina’s first attack! Eriksen gifts possession to the visitors on halfway and Ribery leads the attack. His cross passes through the box, but then Biraghi centres. Kouame and Bonaventura come together and the ball drops kindly for the latter, who squares for the former to tap in. Simple stuff.

2′ This Inter side are comfortable on the ball, with centre-backs on either side who can play further forward. They take control right away.

1′ KICK-OFF: Fiorentina get us up and running in front of a small San Siro crowd!

Fiorentina were one of just three teams Inter failed to beat in Serie A in 2019-20, with both matches between the sides ending in draws. Conte’s men also came up short against Juve and Roma.

New signing Kolarov comes straight into the Inter XI, while Perisic returns from a treble-winning loan with Bayern Munich. Hakimi and Vidal only make the bench. Valero returned to Fiorentina from today’s opponents just last week and is among the visiting substitutes.

Subs: Pietro Terracciano, Borja Valero, Alfred Duncan, Dusan Vlahovic, Riccardo Saponara, German Pezzella, Pol Lirola, Lorenzo Venuti, Tofol Montiel, Christian Dalle Mura, Patrick Cutrone, Igor Julio.

Fiorentina (3-5-2): Bartlomiej Dragowski; Nikola Milenkovic, Federico Ceccherini, Martin Caceres; Federico Chiesa, Giacomo Bonaventura, Sofyan Amrabat, Gaetano Castrovilli, Cristiano Biraghi; Christian Kouame, Franck Ribery.

Subs: Ionut Radu, Achraf Hakimi, Roberto Gagliardini, Alexis Sanchez, Stefano Sensi, Andrea Ranocchia, Arturo Vidal, Dalbert, Lorenzo Pirola, Milan Skriniar, Radja Nainggolan, Andrea Pinamonti.

Inter (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic; Danilo D’Ambrosio, Alessandro Bastoni, Aleksandar Kolarov; Ashley Young, Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic, Christian Eriksen, Ivan Perisic; Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez.

Let’s get the team news from San Siro…

Inter will have lofty expectations for the new season having paid the price for a wobble ahead of the coronavirus shutdown last term. The Nerazzurri finished just a point behind Juventus in the Scudetto race but crucially lost against both Lazio and the eventual champions heading into the unscheduled break.

Matchweek two in Italy’s top flight sees Antonio Conte’s Nerazzurri in action for the first time following their Europa League final defeat to Sevilla. Fiorentina got started a week ago when Gaetano Castrovilli grabbed the only goal against Torino.
