Ravens coach John Harbaugh got heated in his team’s 34-20 loss to the Chiefs on “Monday Night Football” — and it could cost him $100,000 in fines.
Harbaugh removed his face covering, mandated at all times for NFL personnel on sidelines due to COVID-19, midway through the first quarter to yell in the face of one of the refs. The exchange followed an admittedly questionable call on his team: a tripping penalty against tight end Nick Boyle, which negated a 14-yard Lamar Jackson run and instead made it first-and-20 from the Baltimore 24.
Regardless of the circumstances of his outburst, Harbaugh should have known better than to get in the face of an official, especially without a mask on. If not to protect his health, than at least his wallet.
Denver’s Vic Fangio, Las Vegas’ Jon Gruden, New Orleans’ Sean Payton, Chicago’s Kyle Shanahan and Seattle’s Pete Carroll were all fined $100,000 for not wearing their masks during NFL’s Week 2 slate of games.
Then there’s Chiefs coach Andy Reid, who — much like in Week 1 — calmly fogged up his face covering in the win.
