Lamola has left Abafana Bes’thende following a four-year spell with the KwaZulu-Natal club

Lamontville Golden Arrows have announced the departure of four players ahead of the new 2020/21 season.

Abafana Bes’thende endured a disappointing 2019/20 campaign in which they finished 12th on the PSL standings and they failed to qualify for the 2020 MTN8.

Lerato Lamola, Sibusiso Sibeko, Gladwin Shitolo and Nkosingiphile Phewa are the four players, who have been released by the club.

Arrows released the following statement on their official website on Wednesday:

“Lamola’s contract expired at the end of the season 2019/20 season and it was decided not to renew his contract.”

“Lerato played a huge role at the club since joining us in 2016. We wish him nothing but the best for his future,” a club statement read

Lamola netted once in 20 league matches in the recent campaign and the experienced striker has now parted ways with Arrows having joined the club from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2016

While Arrows academy product Sibeko, who is an attacking midfielder by trade, has left the KwaZulu-Natal side after making nine appearances in the league without scoring.

“Sibeko, a mutual agreement to part ways was decided between the player and club.”

“Sibusiso’s contribution to the club, from development through to his first-team commitments, will not be forgotten,” another statement read.

Shitolo caught the eye with some solid performances in defence and midfield – featuring in 24 league matches.

The 31-year-old player had joined Abafana Bes’thende on a season-long loan deal from Orlando Pirates and he has now returned to his parent club.

“Shitolo was on loan from Orlando Pirates for the 2019/20 season and has returned to his contracted club.”

“Phewa, a mutual agreement to part ways was decided between the player and club,” a statement concluded.

Lastly, Phewa struggled for game time after joining Arrows from National First Division (NFD) outfit Real Kings in July 2019.

The 26-year-old striker made only one appearance for Steve Komphela’s side in the league without scoring and he has since been released.

The new season is set to kick off on October 17 with the MTN8 quarter-finals, with the opening rounds of the PSL due to commence on October 24.
